De-dollarization Accelerates: Africa’s Strategic Role in China’s New Payment System

💱 Africa Joins China’s Push to End Dollar Dominance
The global balance of financial power is shifting—and Africa is right at the heart of it. By joining China’s Cross-border Interbank Payment System (CIPS), 53 African nations can now settle trade directly in yuan, bypassing the U.S. dollar and Western clearing banks. This move not only shields economies from dollar volatility and sanctions but also gives Africa new leverage in global trade. The question is no longer if the dollar’s dominance will fade, but how Africa will shape the next era of global finance.

is the East african Community IN DANGER OF DESINTEGRATION ?

Since its revival in 2000, the East African Community (EAC) has expanded into a formidable economic bloc, now comprising eight nations. The addition of Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, DRC, and Somalia has transformed the region, representing a population of 343 million and a $350 billion GDP. The bloc’s integration pillars—Customs Union, Common Market, Monetary Union, and Political Federation—set a foundation for deeper economic and political collaboration.

However, mounting regional conflicts threaten stability. The M23-led violence in the DRC, South Sudan’s military escalations, and Burundi’s disengagement signal growing instability. Meanwhile, financial struggles are strangling EAC operations, with $75 million in unpaid contributions, primarily from DRC ($20M), Burundi ($17M), and South Sudan ($15.6M). As disengagement deepens, experts fear a repeat of the EAC’s 1977 collapse.

Can East Africa's leaders restore trust, ensure security, and prevent another disintegration? The answer will define the bloc’s future.
